Travel Tips

Arrival Suggestions & Pre/Post-Tour Lodging

  • Airport Connections: Most flights arrive early morning, and we plan to have a bonus department store tour that day if you can make it. Due to the winter season, we highly recommend connecting through Dallas or Atlanta via American or Delta.

  • Airport Transfers: We recommend flying into Charles de Gaulle (CDG) or Orly (ORY). Official flat-rate Parisian taxis or pre-booked private car services are the recommended methods for reaching the hotel.

  • Pre-Tour Stays: Many travelers prefer to arrive in Paris one day prior to the official tour start date to adjust to the jet lag. If you require extra nights at our boutique hotel partner before or after the official tour dates, please contact brittbenjamin@styleguidestravel.com for booking assistance. Extra nights are subject to seasonal hotel availability and are not guaranteed.

  • Hotel Check-In: Our Hotel check-in is typically at 3:00 PM. While the hotel will make every effort to accommodate early arrivals, it cannot be guaranteed. You are able to leave your luggage if you are there before check-in.

Communication & Connectivity

  • Check International Plans: Call your phone service to inquire about "International Pass" options (usually $10–$12/day).

  • Portable Power: Using GPS to navigate and taking pics of fab historical fashion drains phone batteries quickly. Pack a portable charger for long days in the city.

  • The Outlet Adaptor: France uses Type E outlets (two round pins).

Exchange $

  • The "ATM Only" Rule: Don’t exchange cash at airport kiosks (the rates are terrible). Instead, if you have to, use a bank ATM once in Paris. Tip: Always choose "Proceed without conversion" so the bank handles the exchange rate, not the machine.

The Paris Travel Uniform

  • Shoes over Style: Paris involves 20,000+ steps a day on uneven cobblestones. Wear "Fashionable sneakers" and avoid brand-new shoes; make sure to break them in.

  • Lux Layers: Check the forecast. Pack for variable weather, focusing on a mix of cold and mostly gray, with average daily high temperatures around 46°F and overnight lows dropping near 37°F . Consider a winter coat (maybe pick up another one at the flea market), warm layers.

  • Pickpocket Awareness: In crowded areas, keep bags zipped and in front of the body. Winter is less busy and less of an issue, but I highly recommend a crossbody bag.

Navigating the City

  • Managing the Metro: Use the Bonjour RATP app to load tickets directly onto your phone. I can also help you when we get there.

Re-entry Logistics

  • Download the MPC App (Mobile Passport Control). This is a free, official app from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. It lets you submit your travel information digitally upon returning, which usually provides access to a shorter, expedited line at Customs.

Passports, Visas & Entry Requirements

  • Travelers are solely responsible for securing and carrying a valid passport, necessary visas, and any required entry documentation. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your scheduled return date. SGT accepts no responsibility or liability if a traveler is denied entry into France due to documentation issues.

SGT Recommendation: We strongly urge you to take a photocopy of your passport and pack it separately from your original, or leave a digital copy with an emergency contact at home.

Dietary Requirements

  • Allergies: Travelers must alert SGT managers in writing of any serious, life-threatening food allergies well in advance of departure. While we partner with high-end establishments and will do our absolute best to accommodate dietary restrictions, we cannot guarantee that every culinary selection can accommodate all preferences.
